Hi-Tech Repairs: Auto Servicing From The Frontlines

This is Joe and I am so excited that I have landed an auto mechanic apprenticeship. I've never wanted to do anything else. I grew up watching dad tinkering with his car on weekends and the desire to be around grease and oil has been in my veins ever since. Even though I've only been training for a year, I've learnt that car servicing and repairs are different from when I used to watch my dad. These days it is very hi-tech and involves researching online manuals when a less common car comes in. It has really made me aware that mechanics need to be well-qualified and dedicated to their job as carelessness can put you in serious danger. I want everyone to understand the complexities of auto servicing these days and this journal is the result. I wish the very best for you and your car. Take care.

Gear Shift Glitches: Guidelines to Help You Deal with Common Gear Shift Challenges

Gear shift glitches are a common complaint for most drivers. Often, you find that gear problems revolve around slipping and rough shifts. If you notice that your gear shifts are slipping, sluggish or rough, then it's advisable that you check the auto transmission unit of your car. In most cases, you can easily identify and fix the problem. Below are guidelines on auto transmissions that you can use to address rough or sluggish gear shift challenges.

Dealing with rough gear shifts

You may notice that shifting gears as you drive has become bumpy or quite gluey; well, this means you're experiencing a rough gear problem. In most cases, you may also hear thud-like or clunking noises as you try to engage the gear.

Often times, you find that having insufficient fluid in your transmission unit is one major cause of rough gear shifts. Damaged solenoid is also another major culprit in rough gear problems. So, check the fluid levels in the transmission unit and ensure that the amount of fluid available is sufficient. If you don't know how to check the fluid levels in the transmission unit, then it's advisable that you check your car's manual and follow the steps.

Secondly, check the solenoid in the transmission unit. If the solenoid is the culprit, then you're likely to notice that the engine light is lit. Also, an automobile scan tool is effective in determining the exact problem affecting the solenoid. If you don't know to use a scan tool, then you may want to visit your mechanic to troubleshoot the solenoid for you.

Dealing with slipping gears

A slipping gear problem puts you at risk of getting into an accident. If gears are slipping you will notice that your car keeps shifting from one gear to the other, which causes surges or low power slowdowns. Often times, the top culprit for slipping gears is a broken band. Bands enable the gear to shift, and if the band is broken the gear controls won't work effectively.

A scan tool can help you check the status of the bands easily as it sends error codes that highlight the problem. It's advisable that you consult a professional mechanic who is good at reading error codes. If the bands have a problem, then you can repair or replace. Otherwise, you can request your mechanic to troubleshoot the entire auto transmission unit so as to identify the source of the problem.

Transmission changeover for persistent glitches

If your car seems to have never-ending gear slips and tardiness, then consider upgrading the entire auto transmission unit. It's advisable that you consult an automobile expert to help you replace your auto transmission unit

Gear shift glitches are a common nuisance that you don't have to tolerate. The tips above on rough and slipping gears can help you overcome these top transmission repairs issues.
